Strategy games as a mechanic involve using good decision-making skills as they have a high significance in determining the outcome in these types of games. Strategy games also include abstract games and simulations (including wargames).  

A good strategy based game can be absorbing, engaging and fun, as well as helping to develop cognitive skills, such as decision making, higher level strategic thinking and problem solving.
